FAQ: https://www.aethersx2.com/faq.html

AetherSX2 is an emulator of the PS Two console for the Android platform. You can play games which you have dumped from disc on your portable device.

A BIOS image **is required** to play games and is not optional. This image should be dumped from your own console, using a homebrew application.

You need a high end device to achieve good performance.

We recommend at least a Snapdragon 845-equivalent device. This means 4 large cores (Cortex-A75 level, 500 or more single core Geekbench 5). If you only have two big cores (e.g. Snapdragon 700 series SoCs), you should not enable multi-threaded VU, and performance will suffer as a result.

Devices with Mali or PowerVR GPUs will run the app, but performance will be much lower than Adreno GPUs, and the Vulkan renderer will not be available. This is because they are missing a critical feature (dual-source blending).

The Last Games Test On AetherSX2

– System simulation
– OpenGL, Vulkan and Software rendering
– Upscaling of games to 1080p and beyond
– Widescreen patches for games without native support
– Save states
– Touchscreen and bluetooth controller support
– Games can be loaded from iso/chd/cso disc images
– Per game settings

AetherSX2 should only be used to play games you own and have dumped from disc yourself. To dump your games, you can use a tool such as ImgBurn to create a .iso for the disc, and then copy across it to your device over USB.

This app is not affiliated in any way with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

About AetherSX2

AetherSX2 is a reimplementation of a well-known desktop PS Two emulator for the ARMv8/AArch64 platform, and a frontend/app for Android. The app allows you to play games that you have dumped from disc on your phone with external or touchscreen controls. It is free to use and does not contain ads.

The app is relatively new, but hopefully the updates released so far demonstrate our competency and ability to continue to improve. However, as this project is just a hobby for us, and the app is free, we do not have the funds to purchase additional devices for performance improvements and bug fixing.

Therefore, this Patreon exists as a fundraiser for acquiring additional devices, and paying for hosting so that users outside of the Play Store can still download the app. We have no interest in making any profit at all, only the cost of devices. Asking for assistance with devices alone is uncomfortable enough, but we simply can’t afford to buy them ourselves out of pocket.

AetherSX2 is a free (no ads) emulator of the PS Two console for ARM-based devices. This enables you to play games which you have dumped from disc on your smartphone.

AetherSX2 App V13930-v1.5-3668 Update

Bug fixes, hardware rendering is now possible in some games, performance improvements, and more! See https://www.patreon.com/aethersx2 for full details.

*v1.4 (October 2022) Update Details*
A somewhat lighter update this month, we do have some performance improvements planned for the next month, but nothing huge, as once again, we’ve well reached the point of diminishing returns optimization-wise. As usual, it will roll out to the Open Testing/beta channel first, followed by Production/monthly. However, we won’t wait so long for the latter this time, since the chances of regressions are lower this update.

Add achievements UI.

AetherSX2 now supports RetroAchievements across all supported platforms (Android, Linux, Mac, and UWP). A RetroAchievements account is required to use this feature, you will not be able to view the achievements list for games without one.

Please note that for achievements to be awarded and/or leaderboards to be tracked, a constant internet connection is required. An internet connection is not required to use the AetherSX2 app itself, only the achievement functionality.

Another thing to be aware of, in most cases, only the USA releases of games have achievement sets created for them. Sometimes patches are required. If your game does not show any achievements, this is likely the reason. You may also need to use a patched disc image in some cases.
